Having crooked teeth can be a confidence killer, and we understand that. Allow us to share with you how Invisalign can help you with a step-by-step guide.
Besides aesthetic concerns, misaligned teeth can also lead to chewing problems, speech issues, compromise oral hygiene, etc.
In short, Quality of life is affected.
Fortunately, there are many methods for correcting misalign teeth now. One of the most popular choices nowadays is Invisalign.
Invisalign are clear aligners that correct dental alignment, and occlusion issues, i.e., how upper and lower teeth meet with one another. Invisalign can also help with overjet, crossbite, deepbite, openbite, or tooth crowding.
Over the years, Invisalign has become popular for correcting dental misalignment alternate to traditional metal braces.
Different to traditional metal braces, Invisalign utilises a video 3D scanner (e.g. Itero element scanner by Align) to capture patient’s teeth, ie. Digital dental impression. Then, the captured images and digital dental impressions are used to develop a 3D treatment plan (Clincheck plan).
Clincheck is a software developed by Invisalign company to can helps dentists as well as patients to visualise the final treatment result even before treatment begin clinically.
Although every aligner may look similar, each is unique in size and shape created specifically for individual patient’s needs. In addition, aligners incur the minimum necessary amount of force to reposition teeth. And due to the aligners’ virtual transparency and comfort, it’s no surprise that Invisalign has become more popular over the years.
STEP 1: CONSULTATION
During the consultation, your dentist will examine your mouth thoroughly and explain to you how Invisalign works, including its various benefits as well as the costs.
STEP 2: INTRAORAL SCANNING
Once a patient decided to start Invisalign, the dentist will use a dental scanner such as iTero Intraoral Scanner to capture a complete 3D impression of your teeth.
STEP 3: CLINCHECK DEVELOPMENT
Clincheck planning involves digitally design the sequencing and individual movement of each aligner, the number of attachments required, any adjustment of tooth shape if necessary, and how long the treatment will take.
Once the clincheck plan is finalised, your dentist will schedule an appointment with you and explain how the treatment will be carried out and showcase the virtual final result.
The clincheck software enables patients to visualise how their teeth will look even before the treatment starts and make it an excellent communication tool.
STEP 4: FITTING AND USING THE ALIGNER
Once the aligners arrived in Singapore. Dentists will issue the aligners for their patients according to the Clincheck plan. The patient must wear the aligners following the chronological order. In most cases, patients are required to change to a new aligner every two weeks but sometimes can choose to speed up at the discretion of the treating dentist.
Patients must wear the aligners according to their dentist instructions. Failing to do so will cause discomfort as well as a sub-optimal result.
STEP 5: FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENTS
Regular follow-up appointments are necessary to let the dentist monitor teeth movement progress. If patients cannot present physically for their appointments, they can use digital intra-oral photos/videos to communicate with their dentist.
Moreover, your dentists may perform interproximal reduction if required during follow up appointments. Interproximal reduction is a method involving polishing off a tiny portion of a tooth structure ( usually no more than .2mm per tooth surface) to create the space required for resolving crowding issues.
Some teeth will also require attachments for moving more efficiently. Attachments are very similar to brackets we use in metal braces, except they are tooth-coloured, a lot smaller and custom planned.
STEP 6: MAINTAINING YOUR SMILE
Once Invisalign is completed, it is necessary to wear retainers (night-time wear only) to maintain stable alignment. In addition, regular half a year professional dental cleaning is encouraged to maintain excellent oral hygiene.
There are many different dental bite issues (i.e. Malocclusions) that each person might suffer. Invisalign can fix Openbite, Deep bite, Crossbite, excessive overjet, Crowded Teeth, as well as Spacing Teeth.
An excellent dental alignment with good occlusion enables people to eat better as well as facilitate better oral hygiene maintenance, decreasing the chance of developing gum diseases and dental decay.
For some, metal braces are not an option due to their aesthetic concern or job requirement. Invisalign is an excellent alternative treatment choice. By using clear aligner trays, it is virtually invisible. It is a perfect option for those who wish to align their teeth without anyone noticing.
Invisalign aligners are made of smooth plastic make them much more comfortable to wear against our lips/cheeks. As a result, patients do not have to worry about any sharp edges that may cause ulcers. In addition, the soft aligners’ forces on teeth are gentle and rarely causing too much discomfort for patients.
Unlike traditional bracket and wire systems, Invisalign is removable, thus not hindering dental hygiene maintenance or pose any diet restriction.
Patients do not need to worry about food getting stuck in between metal brackets and wires. Brushing and flossing can be carried out as per usual.
Time spent at the dentist’s office is less with Invisalign as you only need to come for a review appointment on average of six to eight weeks. In the later stage of Invisalign treatment, sometimes it’s even possible to skip the regular review appointments and often do not need to visit the dental office.
Invisalign is an excellent option for individuals who wish to straighten their teeth.
